Grief and loss counseling in Boise

Grief doesn't follow a schedule, and it isn't a problem to fix. But you don't have to carry it alone, and you don't have to pretend you're further along than you are.

Does this sound familiar?

  • A loss that everyone else seems to have moved past
  • Waves of sadness, anger, or numbness that arrive without warning
  • Guilt about what you did or didn't do, or about feeling relief
  • Trouble sleeping, eating, concentrating, or caring about anything
  • A miscarriage, infertility, or a loss others don't recognize as grief
  • The end of a marriage, a job, your health, or the future you planned

You don't need to check every box, and you don't need a diagnosis to reach out.

How grief counseling helps

Grief counseling isn't about getting over it. It's about having a place where your loss is taken seriously, where you can say the things that feel unsayable, and where someone helps you carry it in a way that lets you keep living. We follow your pace.

Kinds of loss we work with

Death of a parent, partner, child, sibling, or friend. Pregnancy loss and infertility. Divorce and the end of relationships. Loss of health, a career, or independence. Anticipatory grief when someone you love is dying. Complicated grief that has become stuck or is turning into depression.

When grief and trauma overlap

Sudden, violent, or traumatic losses can leave you with intrusive images and a body that won't settle. When that's happening, trauma-focused approaches like EMDR and Accelerated Resolution Therapy can help, alongside the grief work itself.

Therapists who work with this

Each has a different style. Read a profile, pick the person who sounds right, and request an appointment with them directly.

Common questions

How soon after a loss should I come in?

Whenever you want to. Some people come in the first weeks; others come a year later when the support around them has faded. There's no wrong time.

Is what I'm feeling normal?

Almost certainly. Grief can look like sadness, anger, numbness, relief, guilt, or all of them in one afternoon. A therapist can help you tell the difference between grief that's moving and grief that's stuck.

Do you offer telehealth for grief counseling?

Yes. Many people prefer to do this work from home. We offer video and phone sessions anywhere in Idaho.

Is grief counseling covered by insurance?

Usually, yes. Most plans cover it, including Idaho Medicaid. See fees and insurance.
