Couples therapy in Boise

You keep having the same fight. Or you've stopped fighting and started living like roommates. Either way, the distance between you is the problem, not the person across from you.

Does this sound familiar?

  • The same argument, over and over, with no resolution
  • One of you pursues and one withdraws, and both feel alone
  • Trust has been broken and you don't know how to rebuild it
  • You love each other but can't seem to reach each other
  • Big decisions, in-laws, money, or parenting keep pulling you apart
  • You're getting married and want to start on solid ground

You don't need to check every box, and you don't need a diagnosis to reach out.

How couples therapy works here

Your therapist's job is not to referee or pick a side. It's to help both of you see the pattern you're caught in, understand what each of you is really needing underneath the conflict, and learn to reach for each other differently. Sessions are a neutral space where both of you get heard.

The approaches we use

Emotionally Focused Therapy, which works on the attachment bond underneath the arguments, and the Gottman Method, which gives you concrete tools for communication, repair, and staying connected. Joe brings Gottman Method training and more than two decades of experience with couples and families.

Premarital and faith-based options

We offer premarital counseling for couples who want to build strong habits before the wedding. If your faith is part of your relationship, we can thoughtfully include it. If not, that's respected too.

Common questions

What if my partner doesn't want to come?

Start on your own. Individual sessions can change how you show up in the relationship, and partners often join later once they see it's not about blame.

How long does couples therapy take?

Many couples see real change in twelve to twenty sessions. Some come for a focused stretch around a specific problem; others continue with periodic check-ins.

Is couples therapy covered by insurance?

Sometimes. Insurance covers couples work when it's part of treatment for a diagnosed condition, which is often the case. If not, we have out-of-pocket rates and a sliding fee scale. See fees and insurance.

Can we do sessions online?

Yes. Telehealth works well for couples, especially with busy schedules. You can also alternate between online and in-person sessions.

Ready when you are.

Reaching out is the hardest step. The rest we'll figure out together.
